Performance. Security. Integration.

KAZ has the expertise to overcome the three hurdles in an effective SOA deployment

KAZ offers extensive SOA design capabilities coupled with expertise in multiple products and technologies. In the past year alone, we delivered seven projects exceeding $1 million each. Our services help you address the key issues of SOA:

Performance

XML files are heavy which can cause application latency and user frustration. XML processing also ties up computing resources, increasing expenditure on servers, licensing and maintenance.

KAZ can analyse your current application performance, identify where it can be improved and help to reduce costs. Our capabilities include:

  • Performance assessment of applications including capacity planning
  • Performance simulation of applications and technologies and assisting with technology choice
  • Network optimisation of applications – tuning the software infrastructure to reduce costs by optimising HTML, CSS, managing caching and XML usage and other capacity issues
  • Service Level Monitoring

Security

SOA opens up corporate information across departments, business units, partners and customers. This poses a considerable danger since XML tools aren’t security-hardened. Governing access to information and applications is also vital.

KAZ provides a range of services for risk assessment, software implementation and application security. These include:

  • Integration with the security environment – integrates bespoke and packaged applications with directories and provides authentication for applications and services. Extracting or modifying authorisation logic from applications and moving it into infrastructure can be a major part of this procedure
  • Assessment of risk – assesses the risk from Denial of Service attacks, XML parsing attacks, HTML/HTTP-borne attacks and attacks on authentication infrastructure
  • Identity Management - consulting, consolidation, implementation and product selection
  • Single Sign On selection and configuration

Integration

Connecting legacy systems to new workflows and applications can be hard to code and maintain across multiple vendor environments. These integrations can also be needlessly expensive.

KAZ has strong integration capabilities, including ESB and messaging. These include:

  • Architectural patterns for messaging and service integration
  • ESB implementation
  • Messaging interface design and implementation
  • Integrating software of various types
  • Service design and management
  • XML and data format transformation
  • Master data management across organisational boundaries

This delivers a range of benefits:
  • Simplified messaging and services architecture design lets you focus on business results rather than technology issues
  • Specific messaging technologies can be implemented with more reliable results
  • ESB implementations are carried out more rapidly and with less risk
  • Potentially cheaper, faster and more future-proof XML and XSL design

Case Studies

KAZ features in SOA article in MIS

Excerpts from the November edition of MIS:

Systems Integrator KAZ Group reports handling more than seven SOA projects, each worth more than $1 million, in the past 12 months.

In each case, SOA happened by accident, says the Director for Application Development and Systems Integration for KAZ, Ross Magee. “While we didn’t start in any of those projects thinking SOA, it turned out to be the answer to those problems,” he says. They were “business problems that we had to solve, and in each of the projects, the business problems were thought to be insurmountable. One retailer was looking at trashing its entire IT infrastructure because it didn’t have the flexibility to go forward.”

Security and performance

“XML is exciting technology, but its power provides new threats that have to be catered for,” KAZ’s Magee explains. “Most clients, we have found, are not quite prepared for an XML world, in terms of security. While it’s a fantastic interoperability standard, it kills performance if you don’t architect your solution appropriately.”

Architecture

“Methodology and architecture take some time to internalise,” Magee says. “A lot of these projects aren’t long-term problems to fix; they’re acute pain points at the moment. The rise of standards is very compelling, but people get a bit scared of just how much work is required.”
